Gaspilleur Studio

Gaspilleur Studio is a reaction to the wastefulness of physical materials, as well as human energy under capitalism, and the commodification of art in both fashion and fine art markets. Working to exploit these systems and critique from within, we are commodifying trash and ‘unusable’ materials, taking this excessive waste fueled by mass production and capitalism, and giving it value in the high art and fashion industries.
In collaboration, iph and Victoria have deconstructed and reimagined what a traditional gallery space is, using it as a site for art-making and performance, showcasing the process and the existence of ‘an artist’. The gallery will serve as both an installation and creative center for Gaspilleur Studio. Our work will extend into the virtual world as well as physically around Chicago, utilizing all avenues for distributing art. Throughout the show’s duration, we want to extend our collaboration and invite other artists who explore similar ideas around consumption and waste within the art and fashion world, to create exclusive pieces for the show.
